Most of us get to a certain point in our life where we have to own up to our mess and take control. At the beginning, those moments feel like death, but after a while, molding yourself into a person you admire, trust, and adore becomes addictive. In our second episode recorded in person, we discussed our own journey of personal growth. Listen to find out what we want to say to our past and future selves, what our current personal growth chapter is about, what we can simply accept about ourselves and other answers to important questions on the topic.

Ep. 17 What’s in the Bag: Money Talks

Money is such a hard topic to discuss, especially with a Haitian background like us. BTdubs Happy Black History Month! We kick it off with some talks about the bag, the one we’re all trying to get in some way. Listen to the first installment of this two-part episode to find out about Nessa’s newfound vision on money and Dassa’s view on money’s role in the world at large. Whoever owes Cass money, to avoid some 50 Cent – level humiliation, we would advise that you simply return it. Malè avèti pa tiye kokobe!

Have you ever thought you had a friend and then they had a white moment and you had to reevaluate? Has that happened to you multiple times? This episode is a safe space for all those budding friendships that came to a screeching halt because well, white people be whiting. We tackle all the important questions such as Have you ever been “token” by surprise (thee black friend when you didn’t even know it)? We share the stories about being the unofficial teacher of black stuff and having to walk “allies” through our experience, or worst, having them tell us all about our lives. Dassa opens up about her PTWFSD (Post-Traumatic White Friendship Stress Disorder), Nessa shows us why she doesn’t go to work to “make friends”, and Cass introduces the concept of struggle olympics (the deep interest in a person of color’s struggle just to brag about not “knowing anything about that”).

Ep. 20 More Than a Box: Personality Types and MBTI

What’s your MBTI Personality Type? Have you gotten mixed results? What’s your understanding of those kinds of tests? Do you buy it? Have they helped you? In this episode, we talk about a fairly popular topic that we seem to love, classification. Personality tests generally help people develop a language and system around the patterns they’ve noticed within themselves, their decision-making, and their approach to the world. Here we talk about our own Myers-Briggs types, how we relate to it, how knowing it has helped or hindered us, and some of the resources we’ve used. The podcast we mentioned is Personality Hacker and you can reach them at personalityhacker.com. Listen for insight into a deeper and useful perspective of MBTI from Dassa, Cass’s trouble and anxiety about identifying a type, and Nessa’s acceptance story of her weirdness.

What’s your type? Share with us on social media @99percentanomaly. Music by Sarel (@sarel_official) and Jeff Pierre (@jeffpierremusic).

Ep. 21 Beauty Standards: Codifying Gender, Race, and Power

How far are you willing to go to meet beauty standards? How is race intertwined with how the world sees beauty? Happy Women’s History Month! Dassa opens up about the bullying she faced growing up, Nessa discusses how feeling beautiful is often a daily lottery, and Cass says, “My name is Cass, and I’m addicted to Sephora.” Hi Cass!

Come share your opinion with us on beauty standards and race on social media @99percentanomaly. Music by the lovely Sarel (@sarel_official) and Jeff Pierre (@jeffpierremusic).
